Spårvagn (trams and light rail)
No gates: tap the green platform pole before boarding - there is no reader on board. The exception is line 7, whose conductor makes it the only SL line where you board first and buy after. Even they take no cash.

Line 21 partly closed at weekday peaks
On the Lidingöbanan (line 21), trams do not run between Käppala and Gåshaga brygga during weekday peaks - roughly 06:45-09:10 and 15:15-19:00 - and replacement bus 21B covers the gap. It is lifted for the whole summer timetable, which in 2026 runs to August 16, so the closure only returns on August 17; weekends and public holidays are never affected. The tram refurbishment behind it is expected to last to the end of the year.
How to ride
- 1Get your ticket before you boardTrams sell no tickets on board (line 7 excepted) - buy in the SL app, or have a contactless card ready when you reach the stop.
- 2Find the green pole on the platformLines 12, 21, 30 and 31 have no gates - the green pole (SL-stolpe) on the platform is the only reader there is.
- 3Tap the pole before you step onHold your card or SL-kort to the pole and check for the green tick before boarding - there is no reader on board.
- 4Start an app ticket in the app firstAlways start an app ticket in the app before boarding. Only the line 21 poles can even read one, and they still do not start it.
- 5On line 7, hand your card to the conductorSpårväg City (line 7) has no poles. When the conductor comes round, hold out your card and let them read it.
- 6Press the stop button for your stopWatch the on-board display for the next stop and press the stop button. Open the door yourself with the button on it.

Mixing card and phone bills you for two trips
If you switch between the plastic card and the phone wallet part-way through a journey, SL treats them as two separate cards and charges you for two trips. Stick to one of them from start to finish.
