Stockholm
A capital spread across fourteen islands. Its metro is called 'the world's longest art gallery'.
SL buses (buss)
The buses take no cash at all. Tap a contactless card on the green reader as you board and it sells you a 75-minute single on the spot - there is no touch out. Cash survives only at staffed metro ticket offices.

- Until Dec 1, 2026
30-day ticket at half price until December 1
Buy a 30-day ticket by December 1, 2026 and it costs 530 SEK instead of 1,060. It's a time-limited government subsidy and prices go back to normal after December. For a stay of more than a couple of weeks it can work out cheaper than buying one time ticket after another.
How to ride
- 1Get your ticket sorted before you boardA contactless card or an SL card just taps on the reader. Only app tickets must be bought and activated before you board.
- 2Board at the front and tap the green readerHold your card or phone against the green reader by the driver. Routes 1-6 plus 176 and 177 have readers at every door.
- 3Check that it lights up greenIt only counts as a valid ticket when the reader lights up green. If it doesn't, buy in the SL app before you ride.
- 4Buckle up if the seat has a beltWhere the passenger seats have seatbelts, wearing one is compulsory. Screens and announcements give the next stop.
- 5Press the stop button before your stopPress the stop button to tell the driver you're getting off. On some buses you open the door yourself with the button beside it.

Tapping your whole wallet can charge you twice
Tapping your whole wallet can charge you twice - SL cards and bank cards use the same green reader. Take out the one card you're paying with and tap only that.
