Oslo
A capital at the head of a fjord. The local habit: buy your ticket in the app before you board.
Taxis (drosje) and ride-hailing apps
There is no taxi fare cap - the same ride costs up to 40% more at one firm than another. Take the quote you must be offered, then pay the lowest of quote, fixed price and meter. Uber and Bolt are licensed taxis too.

How to ride
- 1Give your destination and take the quoted totalBefore you set off, name your destination and take the total-price quote (makspris) - it is offered even if you never ask.
- 2Check by eye that it is a licensed taxiLook for the licence number on the side doors and a roof light reading TAXI; the meter must be readable from your seat.
- 3Compare quotes and pick the firmThere is no fare cap here, and the same distance costs different amounts at different firms - compare quotes when you can.
- 4Book through an appUber, Bolt and the firms' apps price the ride upfront - that figure is a ceiling, and you pay the meter if it ends lower.
- 5At the airport, use the booking machine or an appAt Oslo Airport, book at the machine outside the terminal or in an app - do not do a deal with a driver who approaches you.
- 6Pay the lower figure and take the receiptIf the meter ends up below the quote, the lower figure is what you owe. Take the itemised receipt as you get out.

Heads-up
-
Don't agree an airport fare with a driver who approaches you
At Oslo Airport, do not agree a price on the spot with a driver who approaches you inside or outside the terminal. The airport operator itself advises against taking a taxi without a prior booking or making a direct arrangement with a driver - use the booking machine outside the terminal, or a taxi firm's app.
