A capital at the head of a fjord. The local habit: buy your ticket in the app before you board.

T-banen (Oslo Metro)

No gates - you need a valid ticket before entering the platform's control zone; no ticket means 1,200 kroner. Machines were removed in 2021, so buy in the app or at a kiosk. All of it is zone 1: 46 kroner rides anywhere.

How to ride

    Buy your ticket in the Ruter app before boarding
    No sales on board or on the platform - enter your destination in the Ruter app and buy; Ruter removed its machines in summer 2021.

    No app? Buy at a kiosk or the customer centre
    Buy at a Narvesen, 7-Eleven or Mix kiosk, or at Ruter's customer centre at Jernbanetorget.

    Tap a Reisekort on the reader inside the car
    Every metro car has a card reader - tap your Reisekort on it to activate. Skip that and you count as travelling without a ticket.

    Transfer on the same ticket
    A one-zone ticket covers transfers for 60 minutes - you can carry straight on to trams, buses and boats.
  5. 5
    Keep the ticket until you get off
    With no gates, inspectors check on board instead. Keep your phone charged and online until you get off.

  • A ticket you can't show on screen counts as no ticket

    An app ticket is checked by showing it on screen. If a flat battery or no data means you cannot show it, you are treated as travelling without a ticket even though you paid. Keep the phone charged and online until you get off.
