How to ride
- 1Buy your ticket in the Ruter app before boardingNo sales on board or on the platform - enter your destination in the Ruter app and buy; Ruter removed its machines in summer 2021.
- 2No app? Buy at a kiosk or the customer centreBuy at a Narvesen, 7-Eleven or Mix kiosk, or at Ruter's customer centre at Jernbanetorget.
- 3Tap a Reisekort on the reader inside the carEvery metro car has a card reader - tap your Reisekort on it to activate. Skip that and you count as travelling without a ticket.
- 4Transfer on the same ticketA one-zone ticket covers transfers for 60 minutes - you can carry straight on to trams, buses and boats.
- 5Keep the ticket until you get offWith no gates, inspectors check on board instead. Keep your phone charged and online until you get off.

Facilities
Lifts (step-free)（Limited）You have the right to travel with a wheelchair on every Ruter service, and the ride is free (up to 146 cm long and 75 cm wide). Prams up to 1460 mm by 800 mm are allowed on metro cars. Ruter publishes no station-by-station list of lifts.

Operating hoursFirst trains start before 05:00 on some lines and most run past 01:00 (Sporveien). Daytime headways are 6-9 minutes on the busiest lines and 15 minutes on the rest. The all-night metro (nattåpen T-bane) was a late-2025 trial only: Ruter concluded it was an expensive service out of proportion to demand and will put the money into night buses instead, so the night option is a night bus (2N, 3N and so on).

A ticket you can't show on screen counts as no ticket
An app ticket is checked by showing it on screen. If a flat battery or no data means you cannot show it, you are treated as travelling without a ticket even though you paid. Keep the phone charged and online until you get off.
