How to ride
- 1Get a ticket before you boardBuy a single ticket in the Ruter app, or pick up a physical Reisekort travel card at a Narvesen, 7-Eleven or Mix kiosk.
- 2Not sorted? Buy on board with cashIf you did not manage that, you can buy a single ticket on board the bus - cash only, and dearer than buying in advance.
- 3Activate the ticket as you get onTap your Reisekort on the card reader on board as you get on - an unactivated card counts as no ticket at all.
- 4Front-door lines - show the driverOn lines that only let you board at the front, show your ticket to the driver without waiting to be asked.
- 5Transfer on the same ticketWhile there is time left on your ticket you can transfer to trams, the metro and boats within the same zones.
- 6Keep the ticket until you are offInspectors can be in plain clothes - keep your ticket with you until you have got off.

Facilities
Lifts (step-free)（Limited）Every Oslo city bus is low-floor, with room for one wheelchair or two prams at each middle door - press the wheelchair/pram button to let the driver know you are getting on or off. Some regional buses in Akershus still have high floors (express services, some school buses and some Drøbak routes), which can make boarding alone difficult. Wheelchair users travel free.

Operating hoursIt varies a lot by line and time of day. Measured across Ruter's seven official bus timetables (editions dated December 2025 to April 2026), first departures cluster in the 05:00-07:00 hours - 06:00 is the commonest - while trunk line 20 alone runs 03:47 to 00:49 on weekdays; last departures cluster in the 00:00 hour, though some lines stop in the evening. Printed headways are 5, 6, 7-8, 10, 15, 20 and 30 minutes: daytime trunk lines run every 5-8 minutes, but 30-minute service is common elsewhere. The N-numbered night buses run on Friday and Saturday nights and nights before public holidays; 11N runs every night, and lines 31 and 37 run around the clock every day.

Showing your ticket afterwards won't cancel the fine
Ruter tickets are non-personal, so if you board without your Reisekort or phone and get checked, showing a valid ticket afterwards will not cancel the fine. Always carry the ticket with you.
