Oslo

A capital at the head of a fjord. The local habit: buy your ticket in the app before you board.

Getting to and from Oslo Airport (Gardermoen, OSL)

Two trains serve the airport, on different fares. Flytoget, the fast one, is the only ride in Oslo where you just tap a bank card at the gate. Vy's cheaper trains take a Ruter four-zone ticket, sorted before boarding.

How to ride

  1. 1
Decide which train you are taking
Flytoget (fast) and Vy's ordinary trains (cheap) both serve the airport station. Decide which one before you set off.
  2. 2
On Flytoget, tap your card before boarding
Skip the ticket entirely - just tap your bank card on the reader on the platform and get on.
  3. 3
Tap the same card to leave at the airport
On arrival, tap the same card at the barrier. Coming back, tap at the airport barrier and pick your destination.
  4. 4
Riding Vy? Buy the Ruter ticket first
Buy a zone ticket to the airport in the Ruter app or at a kiosk first - you cannot buy one on board the train.
  5. 5
Put your Ruter ticket toward the airport coach
An all-zone season ticket rides free; a ticket covering only part of the trip takes one single fare off the price.
  6. 6
Activate the ticket before you board
Hold a Reisekort against a reader to activate it. Inspections are routine, and an unactivated ticket counts as fare evasion.

Heads-up

  • Flytoget and Ruter tickets are not interchangeable

Flytoget tickets and Ruter zone tickets are not interchangeable. A Flytoget ticket is void on other operators' trains, and a Ruter ticket will not get you onto Flytoget. Both leave from the same airport station, so check which one you are holding before you reach the platform.

Timetable

Typical duration 19 minutes from Oslo S on Flytoget; Vy trains and the airport coach take a little longer
