Tram (lines 412 and 421)

Nothing is sold at a tram stop. Buy first - at a metro station machine, a tabaccheria or in the app - then stamp a paper ticket in the validator as you board. The tap-to-ride cards used on the metro do not work here.

How to ride

    Buy the ticket before you board
    Nothing is sold at the stop - buy at a machine inside a metro or funicular station, at a tabaccheria, or in the app.

    Pick 412 or 421 by where you are going
    The two lines run the same loop in opposite directions - 412 from the station to the port, 421 from the port back.

    Validate the ticket as you board
    Paper tickets go in the on-board validator, every vehicle and every change; app tickets are activated in the app before boarding.

    Signal your stop in good time
    Every stop is on request - signal the driver clearly to be picked up, and again well before you want to get off.

Heads-up

  • Works have cut the line back to the port-Poggioreale section

    Since 20 July 2026, signalling works in via Vespucci have cut both 412 and 421 back to the Colombo-Poggioreale section on "giorni feriali". ANM's own timetables list weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays separately, but the notice does not say whether Saturday is included, so check the notices on the spot before riding towards San Giovanni on a Saturday. Three temporary stops have been set up in via Vespucci. No end date has been published.

  • The third line, 422, is suspended

    Line 422 (San Giovanni to piazza Nazionale) still appears on maps and stop signs, but it is suspended; only 412 and 421 are running, and no restart date has been published.
