Nothing is sold on board, and only some buses take a contactless card - which ones is not published. Buy at a tabaccheria or station machine first, then stamp every time you board or change. Every stop is on request.

How to ride

    Get a ticket before you board
    Buy at a tabaccheria, an ANM Point, a machine in a metro or funicular station, or in an app - drivers do not sell tickets.

    Flag the bus down at the stop
    Every stop is on request: raise your hand or the bus will not stop, and use the doors as the signage tells you.
  3. 3
    Validate the moment you board
    Put the ticket in the on-board validator, or activate an app ticket right there - and stamp again each time you change.
  4. 4
    Signal for your stop before you get off
    Getting off is on request too, so press the button early - and keep the ticket until you are off the bus.

Heads-up

  • On strike days only the guaranteed bands run

    Even on a strike day the legally guaranteed bands still run. For buses, trolleybuses and trams that is 05:30-08:30 and 17:00-20:00, with the last morning departures leaving about 30 minutes before the band closes. The metro and funiculars keep a different pair of bands, 06:30-09:30 and 17:00-20:00, so on a strike day there are hours when only one of the two is moving. Strikes are announced in advance - check ANM's notices before you set out.

  • Large suitcases need a second ticket

    One piece of hand luggage rides free, as long as it takes no seat and blocks nobody. Musical instruments and large suitcases need a second ticket, and nothing over 20 kg or 80 x 45 x 25 cm is allowed at all. Unfolded bicycles are barred; folded ones are one per passenger. When the bus is crowded the driver can refuse any of it.
