Shared e-scooters and e-bikes (Voi / Bird / Bit Mobility / Lime)

E-scooter sharing is the mainstay. Signing up takes an ID document and a pass in the app's safety test, and free-floating parking is banned across the central belt - rides may only end in a marked bay or at a rack.

How to ride

    Install the app and register with an ID document
    Voi and Bird hold published permits; Bit lists Naples on its own site. Sign-up needs an ID document and a safety-test pass.

    Find a parking bay on the map first
    The central belt has no free-floating parking, so check for a bay or a rack near where you are heading.

    Scan the QR code to unlock
    Scan the QR code on the vehicle in the app and the lock opens; ride only where bicycles are allowed.

    Park in a marked bay or at a rack
    Use a bike or scooter rack, or a designated parking bay; never leave it on a pavement or in a green space.
  5. 5
    End the ride in the app
    Close the rental in the app; it refuses outside a designated space, so push the vehicle to one.

Heads-up

  • No free-floating parking in the centre

    A single zone running from Vomero through the old town to the station, the city hall and the seafront is marked in the city's tender as an area where free-floating parking is not allowed. You cannot end a ride outside a designated bay or rack, so check the map for one near your destination before you unlock.

  • Helmets are compulsory on e-scooters

    A 2024 amendment to the Italian highway code extended the e-scooter helmet requirement from under-18s to every rider. The city's own 2023 tender document, which still governs the operators, carries the pre-amendment wording, so do not go by it.

  • Three places where riding is banned outright

    Borgo Marinari, the islet under Castel dell'Ovo, the crib-workshop street of via San Gregorio Armeno, and the city's public parks are all off limits to e-scooters. All three are places visitors head for, so plan to arrive by other means.

  • The shared-bike permit has lapsed

    The only shared-bike fleet, Lime's 500 e-bikes, was authorised by the city only until 30 June 2026. Neither a renewal nor a fresh tender has been published since, while Lime still lists Naples among its cities. Do not build a day around finding a bike; check the app map once you are there.
