Airport access (Fiumicino and Ciampino)

The airports are opposites: Fiumicino needs its own train fares - no Rome city ticket works - while a 100-minute ticket covers buses 520 and 720 to Ciampino. A tap at the Termini or Fiumicino gates buys the nonstop fare.

How to ride

    Choose the nonstop or the FL1
    Take the nonstop train for Roma Termini, or the FL1 for other city stations. Your destination decides the ticket.

    Buy the dedicated airport ticket
    Buy at a ticket office or machine; Rome tickets are not valid. At Termini and Fiumicino a tap at the gate buys the nonstop ticket.

    Validate before you board
    Stamp a paper ticket in the platform validator; at Fiumicino the gate does it. Unstamped counts as no ticket.
  4. 4
    From Ciampino, take a city bus
    Bus 520 runs to Cinecittà on metro line A, bus 720 to Laurentina on line B - your ordinary city ticket covers both.

    Take taxis only from the official rank
    Queue at the rank of white taxis in Arrivals and ignore anyone who approaches you. The fare into the centre is fixed.

Heads-up

  • Cars that approach you may have no licence

    Never take a ride from someone who approaches you in the arrivals hall. ADR, the airport operator, warns officially that vehicles standing anywhere but the rank may be driven by people without a proper licence and may charge more. Queue for the white cars with TAXI on the roof and a licence number on the door and inside.

  • The FL1 ticket does not cover the nonstop train

    Do not board the nonstop train on the cheaper FL1 ticket. Say nothing and you pay an 8-euro surcharge on top of the 6-euro fare difference; tell the conductor before you board and you pay only the 6 euro.

  • E-scooters ride the trains but not the ATAC buses

    You can take your own e-scooter on the airport trains for free if it is folded and switched off (up to 80x120x45 cm), but not on ATAC buses 520 and 720 to Ciampino - ATAC bans powered micromobility from its vehicles outright.
