Rome
An entire city built on ancient ruins. Dig below and you hit history — hence just three metro lines.
Rome is a validation city: a bought ticket counts as no ticket until stamped at the gate or on board. A credit card taps straight through instead - metro gates, bus and tram readers alike - with brands up to JCB and UnionPay. Mind the BIT (100-minute ticket): unlimited buses and trams, one metro ride only. The airports are opposites: no city ticket reaches Fiumicino, which needs its own train fare, while the 100-minute ticket rides the city buses to Ciampino. Airport taxis to the walled centre run at a fixed all-in price per car, direct only.
