Regional trains (Treno Regionale)

Within Florence's nine stations, the 90-minute AT ticket from the buses also covers regional trains - except one bought by tapping on a bus, which is void on trains. Train-only trips are cheaper at Trenitalia's EUR 1.70.

How to ride

Buy your ticket before you board

Buy at a station counter, a machine, or in the Trenitalia app. Between the nine city stations an AT 90-minute ticket works too.

Stamp paper tickets before boarding

Use a station validator before you reach the platform. App tickets validate themselves at the train's scheduled departure.

Riding on a card means two taps

With TAP&TAP, touch your card on a reader bearing the TAP&TAP pictogram at both your departure and your arrival station.

Show the conductor your ticket and ID

Digital tickets must be shown with photo ID; if you tapped, give the last four digits of the card you used.

Going beyond the nine stations means a new ticket

The AT 90-minute ticket only covers the nine city stations; beyond them you need a separate distance-based Trenitalia ticket.

Miss the tap-out and you pay the region's maximum fare

If you tap in with TAP&TAP, you must also tap out at your arrival station. Miss the exit tap and you are billed at the end of the day for the region's maximum fare rather than the trip you actually took.
App tickets must be shown with photo ID

Tickets bought in the app are issued in your name and must be shown together with valid photo ID every time a conductor asks. A ticket in someone else's name, or no ID, counts as travelling without a ticket.
A ticket you cannot display counts as no ticket

A ticket bought in the app counts as no ticket at all if you cannot display its QR code on screen. A flat battery or no signal is no excuse, so make sure you can bring it up before you board.
