Florence

A compact treasury of the Renaissance. The old town is best on foot; a tram runs straight to the airport.

Airport access (T2 tram and taxi)

No special airport fare: the T2 tram takes the ordinary 90-minute city ticket. The catch is luggage - one small bag rides free; each big suitcase needs an extra ticket. At night, taxis run at a fixed fare to the centre.

The T2 stop called Peretola Aeroporto is a two-minute walk from the arrivals and departures halls.

Buy at the machine on the platform or in the at bus app; the machine sells single tickets only and takes cards.

  6. 6
Take a taxi late at night or with heavy bags
A taxi charges a fixed price to the city's defined central area, and runs on the meter beyond it.

Heads-up

  • A driver who approaches you may not be a taxi

A driver who approaches you in the arrivals hall is not necessarily a taxi. An NCC hire car normally may not wait for passengers at a public rank and is meant to be booked in advance, but in airport areas a comune may make an exception, limited to zones clearly separated from the taxi rank. The fixed airport fare belongs to the taxi tariff and does not apply to an NCC, so join the official taxi rank and check the tariff sheet displayed in the car.
