Malmö

A port town at the Swedish end of the bridge from Copenhagen. Only its green city buses take a tap of a bank card.

Taxis and ride-hailing

Taxi fares are set freely, with no legal ceiling. Your only yardstick is the comparison price every cab posts in black on yellow: a 10 km, 15-minute trip. For a firm number, ask for a fixed price before the car moves.

How to ride

  1. 1
Take one at a rank or book in the app
A rank, the street, the phone or an app all work - and with Uber or Bolt too, what arrives is a licensed taxi.
  2. 2
    Compare the yellow comparison price
Read the sticker on the outside of the car before you get in - firms differ, and you need not take the first in line.
  3. 3
Ask for a fixed price before you set off
Say so before the car moves if you want a flat price - a firm can decline - and app bookings quote one up front.
  4. 4
Check that the meter is running
An agreed flat price is entered into the meter too. Yellow plates and the driver's permit are on display in the car.
  5. 5
Pay at the terminal in the car
Cards are the norm; Taxi Skane also takes cash, but that varies by firm. App rides settle in the app.
  6. 6
    Take the meter receipt
Even paying by card, take it separately from the card slip - it carries the plate and driver code you need to complain.

Heads-up

  • Do not follow a tout at the airport or station

The regulator reports touting at airports and railway stations as a national problem, singling out Arlanda Airport, with sellers going as far as inventing excuses such as "the trains are not running". Do not follow a driver who approaches you - use a car from the rank or one you ordered yourself.

  • The comparison price is not a cap on the fare

The comparison price on the yellow sticker is not a cap on what you will pay - it only describes a standard 10 km, 15-minute trip. From 2025 complaints the Swedish Consumer Agency estimates taxi customers paid on average about 1,410 kronor more than they expected. If you want a firm number, ask for a fixed price before you set off.

  • Posted prices differ by firm, so compare a few cars

The posted figure differs from firm to firm, so it helps to know the spread. In the transport agency's 2025 national survey most cabs posted a top comparison price in the 351-500 kronor band, and Malmo is named as a city with a relatively larger share in the band below that, 251-350 kronor. So 369 kronor is not the cheap end but a little under the middle, and comparing two or three cars before you get in is worth the minute. The same survey observed no posted price above 700 kronor anywhere.
