Three passes: 24-hour, 72-hour and 365-day. Register a credit card; riders are 18+, or 13-17 with a guardian's written consent.

Unlock with the app, or with your customer ID and a PIN code; the plastic card is posted within Sweden only.

No riding on pavements or footways, and no passengers; helmets are compulsory under 15.

The light in the lock goes from green to red when it is locked and the hire is over; a late return is logged.

Heads-up

In the centre, scooters park only in scooter racks

A rented e-scooter can only be parked in a dedicated scooter rack when you are in the centre. Outside the centre you may use a marked parking area, a scooter rack or an approved bike rack. The zone where racks are mandatory is redrawn from one permit period to the next, so let each operator's app map tell you where parking is allowed, and pick your drop-off point before you set off. Riding on pavements and footways is banned outright, and it is the police who enforce it and issue fines.
The rules are the same as for a bicycle

Swedish law treats an e-scooter as a bicycle: no riding on pavements or footways, and no passengers. Helmets are compulsory for riders under 15, and the transport agency urges everyone to wear one. Riding while impaired by alcohol or drugs to the point where you cannot ride safely is prohibited too. The machine itself may not exceed 20 km/h or 250 watts continuous, or it cannot be used in traffic at all.
Going over the hour gets logged

A Malmö by bike hire runs for one hour at a time. Miss the deadline and a dot is marked against your subscription; after three dots the operator can block you from the service. If you want longer, return the bike at a station and take another one out. Parking anywhere other than a station is at your own risk, and if the bike is stolen or damaged you are liable for repair or replacement up to 3,000 kronor including VAT.
The bike system is being rebuilt through 2026

Malmö by bike is in the middle of a 2026 overhaul covering its look, its stations, its app and its booking system, with ten more stations due in the autumn. The figure of about 100 sites is safe enough - the city repeated it in the present tense in June 2026 - but the count of 1,000 bikes rests on a page last updated in 2023, and what you find on the street may not match the guidance. Free rides for 18-to-25s start in autumn 2026, so the service is still paid for now, and the city's own page is inconsistent about whether the offer means Malmö residents or everyone. Do not count on it.
