Porto

An old river port stacked on the slopes of the Douro. A modern metro and heritage trams share the hills.

CP Comboios Urbanos do Porto

At Sao Bento and Campanha one counter sells two fare systems: Andante inside the metro area, CP's own zone tickets for Aveiro, Braga, Guimaraes or Marco. Two day passes cost almost the same and cover opposite things.

How to ride

  1. 1
Buy at the station ticket office or machine
Buy at the ticket office or a machine at the station you board from; the office takes cash, debit or credit cards and MB WAY.
  2. 2
Pick Andante or a CP ticket by where you are going
Andante reaches Paramos, Lousado, Vila das Aves, Paredes and Leca do Balio; past those you need CP's own zone ticket.
  3. 3
The ticket loads onto a reusable card
Andante loads onto a blue Azul card; a CP single takes either Siga Ocasional or Azul, while the 10+1 needs a Siga.
  4. 4
Validate on the platform before you board
Buying is not enough - hold the card to a station validator just before boarding and check for the green light.
  5. 5
Validate again when you change to metro or bus
With Andante you validate again each time you change mode; nothing extra is deducted inside the ticket's time window.
  6. 6
No sales point? Go to the inspector at once
Only when there is no sales point at the station or within 200 m of it may you buy on board, and only with cash.

Heads-up

  • Andante occasional tickets are not valid on IR trains

An Andante occasional ticket - and the Anda app - is only valid on urbanos and regionais trains. On inter-regional (IR) services only the monthly passes work, so boarding an IR or a long-distance train out of Campanha on an occasional ticket can count as travelling without a ticket. The category is shown on the departure boards and in the "Categoria" row of the timetables.

  • Only some CP machines sell Andante tickets

Not every CP station machine sells Andante. Only the machines on the Vila das Aves-Sao Bento, Paredes-Cabeda and General Torres-Espinho stretches load Andante occasional tickets and sell the blue Andante card; elsewhere the machines only do CP tickets and the SIGA card. If you plan to come back on Andante, buy it at the station you set out from.

  • Andante Tour does not cover the tram or the funicular

Andante Tour is sold as covering the whole Andante network, but two things are carved out - STCP's tram (the Electrico) and the Funicular dos Guindais. Neither accepts the Tour, so you pay for them separately. If the tram is what you came for, the Tour is not the reason to buy.
