Portugal
Porto
An old river port stacked on the slopes of the Douro. A modern metro and heritage trams share the hills.
No gates - your own tap on the validator, every boarding and every change, passes included, is the ticket; skip it and you are fare-dodging. The shared system is Andante: zone tickets on one card cover the metro, buses, urban trains and even the Douro river crossings. Bank-card tap-to-ride is still a pilot: nine stations, the airport among them, and bus 500 on marked validators - a tap anywhere else buys nothing. And the famous historic trams and the Guindais funicular sit outside Andante: no Tour pass, single or 24-hour ticket works there.
