Prague scraps the legal ceiling on taxi fares
Prague abolishes taxi price regulation on 30 September 2026. From 1 October there is no legal ceiling even on metered taxis, so ask for an estimate before you get in and compare it against what an app quotes. The ceilings in the fare table below (70 CZK flag fall, 42 CZK/km, 7 CZK per minute of waiting) hold only until 30 September.
How to ride
- 1Look for the roof TAXI signOff the street or at a rank, take only cars with a TAXI roof sign - those must run a meter.
- 2Check for the yellow registration stickerEvery registered taxi vehicle carries a yellow registration sticker; if a car has none, don't get in.
- 3With an app, check the total before you orderApp-booked rides must show you the final price before you order; after booking, the app shows the car and driver.
- 4Take the receipt when you get outA metered taxi prints your receipt from the meter; with an app the details arrive after the ride.
- 5At the airport, board with your PINBoard at the Pick-up Point in front of the arrivals hall and give the driver the six-digit PIN from your booking.

Heads-up
-
Overcharging or no receipt - do not pay, call the police
A driver who charges above the ceiling or refuses to give you a receipt is very probably running a scam. The city's own advice is to not pay and call the municipal police on 156; complaints go to the city transport department at [email protected].
-
The ceiling bars surcharges but stops at the city limit
The ceiling is a final price including VAT, and the decree forbids adding any surcharge on top of it - a luggage or late-night supplement bolted on afterwards is not legitimate. Note that the ceiling only covers journeys that both begin and end inside Prague; a ride out of the city falls outside the regulation.
