Dhaka

A South Asian megacity humming with rickshaws. The metro, open since 2022, is changing how the city moves.

Rickshaw

Dhaka's iconic cycle rickshaws - best for short hops and narrow lanes. The golden rule: agree the fare before you get in.

How to ride

  1. 1
    Hail a rickshaw
Raise your hand and one will stop - empty rickshaws pass constantly.
  2. 2
    State your destination and negotiate
Always fix the price before boarding. Landmark names work better than addresses.
  3. 3
    Get in
Seats up to two people. Keep luggage on your lap or at your feet.
  4. 4
    Pay on arrival
Paying the agreed amount in exact change is smoothest.

Heads-up

  • Agree the fare before boarding or risk being overcharged

If you don't fix the fare before boarding, you may be overcharged on arrival.

  • Quotes to foreigners start high

Foreigners are often quoted high. Until you know the going rate, start negotiating from about half the quote.
