Dhaka
A South Asian megacity humming with rickshaws. The metro, open since 2022, is changing how the city moves.
No one card covers the city; cash underpins everything. The metro is the fast, comfortable backbone — single-journey ticket or rechargeable MRT/Rapid Pass — and starts Fridays in the afternoon. Beyond it, Uber and Pathao are travellers' most reliable option; motorbikes cut through traffic. Buses are cheapest and hardest: destinations mostly Bengali, cash to the conductor. With CNGs and rickshaws, fix the fare before boarding. App SMS checks need a locally working number, so prepare early; at the airport, skip touts — app or pre-booked transfer.
