Melbourne

A city of coffee and culture, laced with one of the world's largest tram networks — free to ride in the centre.

Airport access (SkyBus and PTV buses)

No train serves the airport, so it is two buses: the red SkyBus on its own ticket (no myki), or the public buses from Terminal 4 on ordinary myki fares - where a Visa or Mastercard tap works and the daily cap applies.

The half-price fares don't apply to SkyBus (until 1 January 2027)

SkyBus is excluded from the state's half-price fares. Public transport across Victoria is half price for everyone, every day, from 1 June 2026 until 1 January 2027 - but the official exclusion list names SkyBus and ferries. The public buses from Terminal 4 (routes 901, 478, 479 and 482) are included, and the myki fares in this table are already the discounted ones.

How to ride

  1. 1
Pick a bus - no train serves the airport
No train serves Melbourne Airport. Decide first between the direct SkyBus and the public buses from Terminal 4.
  2. 2
Buy your SkyBus ticket before you board
Buy online, in the app, or at a kerbside e-kiosk outside the terminal - kiosks take cards only. Stops are T1, T3 and T4.
  3. 3
For public buses, head to the T4 hub
Routes 901, 478, 479 and 482 all leave from the Ground Transport Hub at Terminal 4.
  4. 4
Tap your card or myki as you board
On a public bus, tap a contactless bank card or a myki on the reader as you get on. You can't buy a myki on board.
  5. 5
Tap off again when you get off
Buses need a tap off; forget it and you're charged a default fare. Tap on again when you change to a train.
  6. 6
Use the marked taxi and rideshare ranks
Never take up an offer from a tout. Taxi ranks are at Terminals 1, 2 and 4; rideshare has its own signposted pick-up points.
