Taiwan

Taipei

Taiwan's basin capital, glowing with night markets. The MRT reaches the Beitou hot springs and the zoo alike.

Ride-hailing & taxis

Taiwan's yellow taxis run on meters and scams are rare. If explaining a destination in Mandarin sounds stressful, book by app instead - Uber works with your home account and card as-is.

How to ride

  1. 1
    Get the apps
Uber works with your existing account and card. Local players 55688 and LINE GO have bigger fleets, especially outside the center.
  2. 2
    Book and match the car
Check the plate and model against the app before getting in. Taxis are yellow; app rides are often regular cars.
  3. 3
    Pay
In-app card payment is easiest for app rides. For street-hailed taxis carry cash - many take EasyCard, but not all.
