Since July 2026 you can ride with your own contactless card or phone - no tickets needed. Discounts only apply to EasyCard, though. One rule to remember - no eating or drinking past the gates (fines apply).

How to ride

    Pick your card
    A contactless credit card or phone works as-is. For discounts, buy an EasyCard at any station or convenience store and top it up.
  2. 2
    Tap in at the gate
    Tap your card or phone on the gate sensor. iPhones work in Express Mode - no unlocking, through in about a second.
  3. 3
    Line up to board
    Line up at the platform markings like locals do. The eating ban starts as you pass the gates - even water, gum and candy.
  4. 4
    Tap out with the same card
    Exit with the same card or device you entered with. Distance-based fares (NT$20-65) settle automatically.
  5. 5
    EasyCard unlocks transfer discounts
    MRT-bus transfers within an hour get a discount with EasyCard - it works at convenience stores too. Worth having for longer stays.
