Fares go up on 13 December
Libero fares change at the timetable change on 13 December 2026, rising by 3.5% on average, so from that date the Libero rows in the table below stop applying. If your stay spans the changeover, check the date before stocking up on multi-ride cards.
How to ride
- 1Get your ticket before you boardBuy at the machine at the stop or in the öV Plus app; the only on-board machines the operator names are on buses.
- 2Stamp an undated ticket before you boardUse the validator on the ticket machine at the stop; dated and app tickets need nothing.
- 3Change vehicles on the same ticketWithin the zones and minutes printed on your ticket, switch freely between tram, bus and train. Not on a short-distance ticket.
- 4Buy again for the funiculars and the liftBuy at the station machine for the Gurten and Marzili funiculars; for the Matte lift, pay the attendant at the valley station.
- 5Keep the ticket until you get offThere are no gates; inspectors work on board. Keep the ticket on you until the journey ends.

Facilities
Lifts (step-free)（Limited）Trams and buses that take wheelchairs are marked with a wheelchair pictogram on the side, which is how you tell whether a vehicle has a ramp. The wheelchair space sits opposite the boarding door and has its own stop button and a padded backrest. The Stadler Tramlink cars, phased in from summer 2023, are low-floor end to end and every door has a sliding step that bridges the gap at the stop. Passengers with a rollator can also ask for help boarding, but the ramp is not available to them for safety reasons, so you need to manage steps and gaps yourself. The next stop is announced both audibly and on the displays.

Operating hours（Limited）BERNMOBIL does not publish network-wide first and last tram times; you look them up per stop or per line instead. The three climbing lines covered on this page keep their own hours. The Gurten funicular runs from 07:00 every 15 minutes (at 00, 15, 30 and 45 past), with the last ascent at 23:30 Monday to Saturday and 20:00 on Sundays and public holidays, the last descent 15 minutes later; the Grünenboden midway station is staffed until 20:00. The Marzili funicular runs daily from 06:15 to 21:00 every three minutes. The Matte lift runs 06:00-20:30 Monday to Saturday and 07:00-20:30 on Sundays and public holidays.

Trams have priority; the broken white line is the boundary
Trams have priority even on a pedestrian crossing. In the old town the tracks run through the shopping streets, and in the Spitalgasse and Marktgasse a broken white line on the ground marks the lane trams and buses use. Stay on your side of it and you can wander safely. Steel wheels need a long braking distance, so a driver who sees you may not be able to stop.

A kick scooter rides free if its wheel is 30 cm or less
Your own kick scooter or e-scooter rides free as hand luggage if its largest wheel is 30 cm (12 inches) or less across. Above that it counts as a bicycle and needs its own half-fare ticket.
