The Swiss capital, cradled in a bend of the Aare. Trams, buses and S-Bahn all share one zone-ticket system.

Bern Airport (Belp)

Take a train to Belp, then bus 160 to the terminal. The airport is in zone 115, so a city ticket will not reach it - buy three zones. Flights are mostly Munich and seasonal holiday routes.

How to ride

    Buy a ticket that covers the airport zone
    Buy at a station machine, a counter or in an app. Zones 100/101 stop short - the ticket has to include 115.

    Board an S-Bahn to Belp
    The S3, S4, S31 and S44 call at Belp. Stamp an undated paper ticket before boarding.

    Change to bus 160 at Belp station
    Board BERNMOBIL's line 160; the destination sign reads Bern Flughafen.

    Keep the ticket until you get off
    There are no gates, only inspections. The one ticket stays valid across the change of vehicle.

Heads-up

  • Bern-Ticket covers the airport only on arrival and departure

    The Bern-Ticket only covers the airport stretch on your day of arrival and day of departure. Any other trip out there needs a ticket that reaches the third zone.

  • A Libero ticket will not bring you in from Zurich Airport

    A Libero ticket will not get you in from Zurich Airport; buy a national point-to-point ticket or a pass through to Bern.

  • A partly valid ticket costs less than none at all

    Travelling with no ticket at all means a CHF 100 surcharge for a first offence; if you can show a ticket that is valid for at least part of the route - a city ticket, say - it falls to CHF 75. The amount rises with the number of cases in the past two years, and no distinction is made between forgetting and dodging.

  • Bus 160 also stops at Rubigen, but only once an hour

    Bus 160 also calls at Rubigen station, where the S1 stops, but only once an hour: the last weekday departure for the airport is 19:33, and on Sundays the first is 07:33. Belp is the connection to rely on.

  • Three rides not covered by a single ticket in your zones

    Three rides are not covered by a single ticket even inside the zones you bought: the Gurtenbahn, the Marzilibahn and the Matte-Plattform-Lift.

  • A city ticket can be topped up for the missing zones

    If you already hold a ticket or a season pass for the city zones, you can buy an Anschlussbillett for the missing zones instead of a fresh three-zone ticket. Whether the Bern-Ticket counts as such a base is not stated officially.
