CP Urbanos de Lisboa / Fertagus

The suburban trains split by operator: Fertagus, over the Tagus, takes a bank-card tap; CP's four lines - Sintra and Cascais included - have no open loop, so a ticket goes onto a navegante ocasional card.

How to ride

    Buy a navegante ocasional card at the station
    Get the reusable card at a ticket office or machine and load the ticket for your journey onto it.

    Validate before every single trip
    Tap at the gates where there are gates, or at the platform validator where there aren't - every trip.
  3. 3
    For Sintra and Cascais, ask for a return
    Ask for an "ida e volta" and the return loads onto the same card; Cascais trains leave from Cais do Sodre.

    Crossing to the south bank, switch to Fertagus
    Fertagus runs to Almada and Setubal - at a marked contactless validator, select your destination and tap your bank card.

    Tap again on the way out
    At gated stations you tap the same card again to get out - with a bank card, the exact one you tapped in with.

    Going further than your ticket? Top up before boarding
    If you are riding beyond your ticket, buy an "excesso de percurso" at your departure station before you board.

Heads-up

  • Modernisation work closes the Caxias-Cascais section of the Cascais line after 21:50 on weekdays, after 20:50 on Saturdays, and on Sunday mornings and after 19:50, with buses replacing trains. Allow extra time coming back from Cascais at night.
