Regional trains (Treno Regionale)

Between the seven stations inside the comune the regional train is a flat EUR 1.50 - the direct island-mainland link. A paper ticket here lasts just 60 minutes from stamping, not Italy's usual four hours.

How to ride

    Buy your ticket before you board
    Buy at a station counter, a machine or in the Trenitalia app - between the seven city stations the price is the same.

    Stamp paper tickets before boarding
    Use a station validator before you reach the platform. Here the stamp lasts 60 minutes; app tickets validate themselves.
  3. 3
    Riding on a card means two taps
    Touch the same card on a reader bearing the TAP&TAP pictogram at both your departure and your arrival station.

    Validate the EUR 25.00 day pass on an AVM reader
    The EUR 25.00 pass bought on AVM's website or in OpenMove Way is validated on an AVM reader, before you board an AVM vehicle.

    Validate the EUR 5.00 day pass yourself in the app
    The EUR 5.00 pass bought in the AVM app or in OpenMove Way you validate yourself, inside the app you bought it in.

    Show the conductor your ticket and ID
    Digital tickets must be shown with photo ID; if you tapped, give the last four digits of the card you used.

    Going beyond the city stations means a new ticket
    The flat fare covers only trips between the seven city stations; beyond them you buy a separate ticket priced by distance.

Heads-up

  • Miss the tap-out and you pay the region's maximum fare

    If you tap a bank card to board, you must also tap out at your arrival station. Without the exit tap you are billed at the end of the day for the region's maximum fare rather than the trip you actually took.

  • The pass that builds up on taps is not valid on trains

    The EUR 25.00 "Venezia Daily Pass" that builds up automatically when you tap a bank card on AVM's readers is not valid on the regional trains, unlike the identically named, identically priced ticket you buy at a counter or in an app. Going by the name and the price alone will leave you riding without a ticket.

  • Board a different train and the app ticket is void

    A ticket bought in the app counts as no ticket at all if you board a train other than the one printed on it. You can put it right by paying the conductor EUR 5.00 on the spot.
