Helsinki
A Baltic capital of design and sea air. Green trams loop the city, and no station has a ticket gate.
Raitiovaunu (tram) / pikaratikka (light rail)
Board first, then tap a bank card at the reader inside - drivers sell nothing. One AB ticket covers every tram in town. Tapping costs 20 cents more than the app, and an app ticket must be in hand before you step on.

A dead phone counts as having no ticket
A dead phone counts as no ticket. Neither an HSL app ticket nor one bought by tapping a phone wallet can be shown to an inspector if the device will not turn on, and you can be fined for it. Tapping a physical plastic card instead of a wallet sidesteps the problem entirely.
