How to ride
- 1Buy before you board, or right afterDrivers sell no tickets. Buy at the stop machine or in the HSL app, or tap a card on the on-board reader right after boarding.
- 2Pick your zones on the reader, then tapSelect your zones on the reader (AB if you only ride trams), then hold your card to it. A green frame shows the ticket is valid.
- 3Get an app ticket before you boardBuy in the app before you step on - the ticket has to be on your phone already. Buying after you board counts as no ticket.
- 4Keep going on the same ticketAn AB ticket lasts 80 minutes from purchase, and within that you can change freely between trams, buses, the Metro and trains.
- 5Show the inspector the card you paid withWith contactless, the card itself is the ticket - show the inspector the exact card or wallet you paid with.

Facilities
Lifts (step-free)（Limited）HSL states that all trams are either fully or partly low-floor. The X54 cars on line 15 are 100% low-floor and level with the platform, and all 49 of the older articulated trams have had a low-floor middle section fitted. Stop heights vary, though, so there may be a gap or a step between the kerb and the tram. Most trams have a manual ramp at the middle doors and the driver will help. Mobility scooters are not allowed on trams.
Suitcases & luggageOrdinary luggage and suitcases ride free; bicycles are banned unless folded.

Operating hoursMeasured on a weekday (14 Sep 2026): most lines start between 05:07 and 05:30, line 7 at 04:47 and line 15 as early as 03:57. Last departures from the terminus vary a lot by line - line 1 stops as early as 21:09, lines 5 and 8 finish in the 23:00 hour, and lines 2, 3, 9 and 15 keep going until 01:10-01:35, with the final runs reaching their terminus after 02:00. Headways are 10 minutes per line at peak and through the middle of the day, stretching to 12 in the evening; line 15 alone runs every 6 minutes at peak and 8 midday. The August timetable thins most lines to 12 minutes all day, with lines 4, 10 and 15 at 10. These figures are computed from HSL's official GTFS feed (version 2026-08-01, valid 31 Jul-28 Sep) rather than quoted from a published statement - HSL does not print service hours on its site and points riders to its journey planner instead.

A dead phone counts as having no ticket
A dead phone counts as no ticket. Neither an HSL app ticket nor one bought by tapping a phone wallet can be shown to an inspector if the device will not turn on, and you can be fined for it. Tapping a physical plastic card instead of a wallet sidesteps the problem entirely.
