How to ride
- 1Register in the nextbike app and activateRegister in the nextbike app or on the Bajs site, link a card and activate the account. You must be 18 or over.
- 2Find a station on the mapCheck nearby stations and how many bikes they hold on the map in the app. You can hold a bike for 10 minutes while you walk over.
- 3Scan the QR code to unlockScan the QR code on the bike with the app and confirm the hire - the frame lock opens by itself.
- 4Ride the cycle pathCyclists must use a cycle path or lane where one exists; where there is none, keep to the right-hand edge of the road.
- 5Pause in the app before you stop offTo stop off, choose "Pauziraj vožnju" in the app first, then push the lever down. Lock it before that and the hire simply ends.
- 6Finish at an official stationPark at an official station and push the lever under the saddle down to lock it. Check in the app that the return registered.

Ending a hire outside an official station costs extra
You may only end a hire at an official station shown on the map in the app; close the frame lock anywhere else and a 30 euro surcharge follows. Walking away without locking it costs 30 euro too, and leaving it unlocked outside a station costs 100 euro. If every rack is taken, park within five metres of the station, clear of pedestrian and traffic routes and off any grass, and lock it there. There is a way out if you get it wrong: hire the same bike again straight away and return it properly to an official station, and the consecutive hires are merged and the surcharge is cancelled.

No riding on pavements; reflective gear required at night
Croatian road traffic law requires cyclists to use a cycle path or lane where one exists; where there is none you ride at the right-hand edge of the road, and the pavement is never an option. At night, and by day in poor visibility, you must also make yourself visible with a reflective vest, reflective clothing or another reflective marking - 30 euro if you do not. Helmets are compulsory below the age of 16, but Bajs only registers riders of 18 and over, and it lends no helmets at all, including for the child seats. The system runs around the clock, so bring your own reflective gear if you plan to ride after dark.

No taking the bike aboard other vehicles or out of the zone
Taking a hired bike aboard another vehicle is forbidden, and putting it in a car or on a train, bus, tram or funicular brings a 100 euro surcharge - so riding the tram up the hill and freewheeling down on a Bajs bike is not on. Carrying it outside the service area, shaded red on the map in the app, is banned as well. Hold on to a bike for more than 24 hours and a surcharge applies; fail to return it after that and it is treated as theft. Even a paused hire can be closed by the operator if the bike sits at a station for more than 15 minutes.

No app-based shared e-scooters in Zagreb
Zagreb has no app-based, free-floating shared e-scooters. The only shared micromobility the city runs is the Bajs bicycle: Bolt's own Zagreb city page lists ride-hailing and food delivery as its services and nothing else, and Lime's official location list does not include Croatia at all. Several shops do rent scooters by the day or week. If you ride one yourself, Croatian law makes a helmet compulsory at every age, requires you to use a cycle path where one exists, and only lets you use pedestrian surfaces where there is none. Leaving a scooter anywhere but a designated parking place is also prohibited.
