S-trains (SNCB/NMBS)

Since 1 July 2026 nothing is sold on board: hold a valid ticket before the platform, or it starts at 90 euros. One Brupass covers train, metro, tram and bus in the Region, but the rail leg needs its own validation step.

How to ride

    Buy before you reach the platform
    Tickets are not sold on board any more. Buy in an app, or at a station machine or ticket office, first.
  2. 2
    Inside the Region, pick a Brupass
    One Brupass covers train, metro, tram and bus inside the Region; going beyond it, buy a through ticket instead.
  3. 3
    Validate a MOBIB Brupass before boarding
    At a station machine, choose to validate your Brupass - or hold the card to your phone in the SNCB MoBIB app.
  4. 4
    Activate an app ticket before boarding
    In the app, pick the network you are starting on to activate it, then show the QR code to the conductor.
  5. 5
    Reuse the same ticket when you change
    Moving on to metro, tram or bus, use the same Brupass - the last connection must be validated by minute 59.

Payment

Tap to ride
There is no tap-to-ride on the train - you buy a ticket first.
IC card
Tickets load onto a MOBIB or MOBIB basic card; the card itself costs extra.
App tickets
Buy a Brupass in the SNCB or STIB app and activate it before boarding.
Paper tickets
The Brupass has no paper version - card or app only.
Cash
STIB's red GO machines take coins up to €40; SNCB machines unconfirmed.

Heads-up

  • Zaventem station is not the airport station

    Zaventem is one of the 18 stations a Brupass XL reaches, but that is the town station - the one under the terminal, Brussels Airport-Zaventem, is a separate station and needs a different ticket.
