Taxi (station taxis and street taxis)

Two legal kinds of taxi, priced differently: black-and-yellow rank taxis run on one fixed tariff, while the street taxis behind Uber and Bolt float up to 200% of the legal floor. Either way, no ride costs under 8 euros.

How to ride

    Decide - rank or app
    Rank taxis are black with a mango-yellow chequered stripe and a TX plate, and they are the only ones you can flag down.

    At a rank, take the first car
    You take the car at the head of the line. If a rank with a free taxi is within 100 m on foot, drivers must refuse a street pickup.

    Check the meter before you set off
    Once you are in, check the meter is lit. The driver may not ask for more than the meter shows at the end.

    With an app, read the price before you confirm
    Anything booked must show you an indication of the final price before you commit - read it, then confirm.
  5. 5
    Take the printed ticket when you get out
    Drivers must hand you a printed ticket after every ride without being asked - never a handwritten one. You need it to complain.

The flat pick-up charge when you take a rank taxi without booking; distance and time are added on top.

Heads-up

  • A driver who approaches you is not operating legally

    Never follow a driver who approaches you. Touting for customers is banned outright by the taxi decree, so anyone who walks up to you is not working legitimately - take a car from the rank queue or one you booked in an app.

  • In a fare dispute the driver must drive you to the police

    If you end up in a dispute over what to pay, you can ask to be driven to the nearest police station - the driver is not allowed to refuse. The printed ticket carries the taxi number and everything else a complaint needs.
