The hub of central Taiwan. Rail here means a single metro line, so most journeys fall to the city buses.

Taichung International Airport (RMQ)

No airport rail: buses and taxis all go from the bays on B1 of the international terminal. Shuttle 555 reaches Wenhua Senior High MRT in 30 minutes, 500 and 333 go to Taichung Station. City buses need a tap on and off.

How to ride

    Head down to the bus bays on B1
    The bays are on B1 of the international terminal, split between platforms 1-3 and stop 7 on Zhonghang Rd northbound.

    Pick the route for where you are going
    For the metro, 555 to Wenhua Senior High (bay 1) or 156 to the HSR station (bay 2); 500 and 333 run to Taichung Station.

    Tap your card or pay cash as you board
    Hold an EasyCard or iPASS to the reader by the door; cash goes straight into the farebox.
  4. 4
    Tap again as you get off
    The distance part is taken when you tap off; if you paid cash on a city bus, you pay again at the door.

    For a taxi, use the rank on B1
    The taxi rank is also on B1 of the international terminal, and the fare runs on the meter.

Heads-up

  • Tapping off is not optional

    City buses want a tap when you board and another when you get off. Every route out of the airport - 500, 333, 302, 156 - runs past the base distance, so the distance part of the fare is only taken on the second tap. Paid in cash? You pay again at the door.

  • Two Sun Moon Lake departures a day, in a nine-seater

    The 6670E to Sun Moon Lake leaves the airport just twice a day, at 09:00 and 14:30, in a nine-seat minibus. Book ahead if you want a seat.
