Palaces and the opera house line the Ring, and Vienna's famous trams trace the loop around them.

No ticket gates exist, yet no valid ticket means a steep penalty — Vienna runs on trust. No stored-value card exists: buy tickets each time, cheapest digital in the WienMobil app (no stamping); paper counts only once stamped. One ticket covers U-Bahn, tram and bus, transfers included. Tap-to-ride is only a trial at a few stations; a credit card here buys tickets, not entry. Tram stops have no machines, buses sell nothing on board — buy first: app, U-Bahn station, Trafik. City tickets stop short of the airport; that leg needs its own ticket.
