Züri Velo (PubliBike Velospot)

The city's bike share is Züri Velo - run through its app, outside ZVV fares; no ticket or Zürich Card includes it. Bikes go back to a station; e-scooters in the same app can be left anywhere in the permitted zone.

How to ride

    Register in the app
    Register your name, email and a payment method in the PubliBike Velospot app; a one-off verification fee applies.
  2. 2
    Find a station on the map
    Pick a station with a free bike from the map in the app - there are almost 200 of them across the city.
  3. 3
    Unlock it with the app
    Tap Rent in the app, then scan the QR code on the handlebar or press the button on the lock - Zurich has both types.
  4. 4
    Stay off the pavement
    Use the cycle lane or path where one exists; otherwise keep to the right-hand edge of the road. Riding on pavements is banned.
  5. 5
    Return it to a station and lock it
    Return only to an active station; close the lock by QR scan or by pulling the lever down, and check the app confirms the end.
  6. 6
    Park an e-scooter inside the zone
    E-scooters do not go back to a station - park inside the permitted zone shown on the app map. Minimum age 18.

Heads-up

  • Parking off-station or in a banned spot costs a fee

    Leaving a bike or e-bike outside an active station costs a CHF 20 fee. Parking an e-scooter in a non-permitted place costs CHF 30 the first time and CHF 50 from the second time onwards.

  • The hire keeps running until the return is confirmed

    Bikes go back only to an active station shown on the app map. If it is full or out of service the rules require you to ride on to the next station with free spaces, and if you walk away before the return is confirmed the hire keeps running at your expense.

  • If a badly locked vehicle is stolen, you owe a minimum sum

    If a badly locked vehicle is stolen, the rider owes a minimum damage sum - CHF 2,300 for a mechanical bike, CHF 3,600 for an e-bike with its lock, and CHF 1,200 for an e-scooter. Lock it even for a short stop.
