Tram (tramwaj)
There is no tap-to-ride - buy a ticket first and stamp it in the validator by the doors right after boarding. Every tram carries a ticket machine if you missed buying one, but it takes no cash.

How to ride

- 2Pay the on-board machine by cardOn-board machines take cards, BLIK and phone contactless only - no coins and no banknotes.
- 3Open the doors yourselfDoors do not open by themselves at a stop - press the button on or beside the door.
- 4Stamp the ticket the moment you boardPush a paper ticket into the validator by the doors and let go - a beep and a green light mean it worked.
- 5App tickets need a QR scanA ticket bought in an app is activated by scanning the QR code opposite the door - skip it and you are riding without a ticket.

Unlimited transfers for 20 minutes; valid on the S2 and S3 airport trains, and on RL as far as Płudy.

All of Warsaw is zone 1, so this is the workhorse ticket for a tram-based day.

Payment
Tap to ride Fine for buying a ticket, but there is no tap-your-card-and-ride system here.
IC card A city card that holds tickets - mainly season passes; visitors can skip it.
App tickets Licensed apps sell tickets; a ticket is not valid until you activate it.
QR ticketing Used to activate app tickets - scan the code opposite the entrance door.
Paper tickets A magnetic-stripe card ticket - push it into the validator to activate it.
Cash The ticket machine on board a tram takes no cash.

Tram routes get swapped for "Z" replacement buses
When engineering works or a fault stop the trams, replacement buses take over that stretch. They carry a "Z" in front of the route number (for example Z-2). Track works are frequent in Warsaw, so check WTP's service updates before you set out.
