France
Paris
The art capital along the Seine. With 300-odd stations, a métro stop is rarely more than a short walk away.
Paper tickets are no longer sold: fares live on a Navigo Easy card or your phone, and there is no bank-card tap at the gates yet. Fares split in two — one ticket for metro and RER, another for buses and trams; neither works on the other. The flat rail ticket reaches Versailles and Disneyland; only the airports need their own ticket. On gateless buses and trams, validate at every boarding — a fine otherwise, valid pass or not — though on buses a tapped card buys a dearer single. Airport taxis are flat-rate; touts in arrivals are all illegal.
