Jeju

A volcanic island off Korea's south coast, centred on Mount Hallasan. No rail at all; the bus is how Jeju moves.

Jeju has no rail: public transport is buses, taxis and boats to the offshore islands. Buses stopped taking cash in October 2024, so buy a prepaid transit card at a convenience store; on board you can also tap a Visa contactless card or scan the QR sticker. With a transit card you tap on and off, and the second tap settles the distance charge on a 1-series express and opens the transfer window. Kakao T and Uber both send licensed metered taxis. Boats to Udo and Marado are ticketed at the port desk, where each adult shows an original photo ID.
