Busan

Korea's second city, famous for its beaches and film festival. The metro runs from the seaside to the hot springs.

Donghae Line commuter rail (동해선 광역전철)

Songjeong, Osiria and Gijang - eastern Busan's sights - are Donghae Line stations. Korail runs it, so metro day passes and the metro app's tickets are no good; ride on a transit card or a cash-only machine single.

How to ride

  1. 1
Top up a transit card with cash
Buy an EZL (Cashbee) card at a convenience store or a metro station; Donghae Line machines top up cards but do not sell them.
  2. 2
No card? Buy a single ticket
Buy a single ticket from the machine at the station - for now they take cash only.
  3. 3
    Tap in at the gate
Hold the card to the reader at the gate - there is nothing to select for your destination.
  4. 4
Always tap out where you get off
The fare is worked out from the distance you rode, and skipping the tap-out also costs you the transfer discount.

Heads-up

  • A transit card will not board the KTX to Seoul

KTX trains for Seoul (including former SRT services) leave from Busan Station - your Donghae Line transit card will not board them; buy a separate ticket.

  • Donghae Line ticket machines take cash only

The ticket machines at Donghae Line stations sell single tickets for cash only. Korea National Railway plans to have new machines - taking credit cards and mobile payments - in all 23 stations from Bujeon to Taehwagang by the end of 2026, but until then, arrive with cash or a topped-up transit card.

  • An overseas credit card cannot top up an EZL card

An overseas-issued credit card cannot load an EZL (Cashbee) transit card. Top it up with cash, or arrive at the station with money already on it.
