dublinbikes, Bleeper and MOBY

No shared e-scooters here - bikes are all there is. dublinbikes includes the first 30 minutes of every journey, so redocking in time keeps a day of hops on the day ticket alone; electric means dockless Bleeper or MOBY.

How to ride

    Choose between the three services
    Docked dublinbikes, or dockless Bleeper and MOBY, left at public bike racks. For an electric bike it has to be the latter two.

    For dublinbikes, buy a day ticket at a terminal or in the app
    Buy a 1-day or 3-day ticket at a card-enabled terminal or in the app, and set a PIN. Nearly every station has one.

    For the dockless bikes, register in the app
    Install the Bleeper or MOBY app and register, then scan the QR code on the bike. MOBY needs 5 euro in the wallet first.

    Redock before the half hour is up
    dublinbikes starts charging past 30 minutes per journey. Dock before that, wait five minutes, then take another bike.

    With dublinbikes, wait for the green light
    Push the bike into the stand and wait for two beeps and a green light. If the station is full, the terminal finds a nearby one.

    Lock dockless bikes to a public rack
    Wrap the chain around a public bike rack, lock it, then end the trip in the app and upload a photo.

Heads-up

  • Lock a Bleeper to a public rack, nothing else

    A Bleeper must be chained to a public Sheffield-style rack inside its operating zone. Lampposts, railings, private property and dublinbikes stands are all out - each breach costs EUR 15 to 20, and they stack.

  • End a MOBY at a green-zone stand and upload a photo

    A MOBY can only be ended at a public stand inside a green zone on the app map. Lock it, upload a photo showing bike, stand and lock, and wait for the confirmation before walking off - getting it wrong costs EUR 6, or EUR 30 for a serious breach.

  • Footpaths are off limits, and no lights means a fine

    Footpaths and pedestrianised areas are out of bounds. Cycling in a pedestrian street, running a red light or riding without lights each carry a 40 euro Garda fixed charge, rising by half if unpaid after 28 days.

  • No helmets lent and no insurance - bring your own

    Helmets are not a legal requirement in Ireland, and none of the three services lends you one - bring your own if you want one. There is no insurance either; the bike is your responsibility while you have it.
