Shenzhen

A fishing village turned tech hub on Hong Kong's doorstep. On the intercity railway, your passport is the ticket.

Longhua Tram / Pingshan SkyShuttle (云巴)

Longhua's tram is a flat 2 yuan end to end; Pingshan's SkyShuttle charges by distance like the metro. A Shenzhen Tong card or ride code is the sure way onto both - the metro day pass and metro app code do not work here.

How to ride

  1. 1
    Get a Shenzhen Tong first
A Shenzhen Tong is the sure way onto both - have the physical card or its ride code ready before you go.
  2. 2
On the tram, validate at a reader
Tap the reader on the platform or inside the car before you ride; there appear to be no metro-style gates.
  3. 3
On the SkyShuttle, tap through the gates
Tap or scan at the gate of the elevated station to enter, then tap out at the station where you get off.
  4. 4
    Be ready for an inspection
Tram staff check tickets on board; being caught without one costs ten times the single fare.

Heads-up

  • Use a Shenzhen Tong ride code, not the metro app

Nothing official says the ride code in the Shenzhen Metro app works on the Longhua tram, and the January 2023 notice on cross-border code acceptance names the tram as excluded. Open a separate Shenzhen Tong ride code for the tram and the SkyShuttle.
