Australia's harbourside gateway. Ferries are part of the commute here, so getting around is sightseeing in itself.

Shared dockless e-bikes (Lime, HelloBike, Ario)

Private dockless e-bikes only - scan the QR code in the app to unlock. No published price list exists; what the app shows before unlocking is what you pay. Helmets are the law, and adults cannot ride on the footpath.

How to ride

  1. 1
Pick an operator and install its app
In the city centre green is Lime, blue is HelloBike, white is Ario. Each needs its own app; other councils have other operators.
  2. 2
Scan the QR code to unlock
Find a bike on the app's map, then scan the QR code on it or type in the vehicle number to unlock.
  3. 3
Put the helmet on before you ride
Use the helmet attached to the bike, and don't ride if there isn't one. Helmets are the law in NSW and police enforce it.
  4. 4
Ride on the road or a bike path
Adults can't ride on footpaths. Use roads, bike lanes and shared paths - and give way to pedestrians on shared paths.
  5. 5
Park in a marked area and confirm the end
Park upright in a parking area shown in the app and wait for it to confirm the trip has ended. Keep the footpath clear.

Quick facts

Heads-up

  • Fines for riding without a helmet or on the footpath

Riding without a helmet starts at $423, riding on the footpath as an adult is $140, and reckless riding is $562. NSW road rules apply to bikes just as they do to cars, and police enforce them.

  • Park outside a designated area and charges keep running

Park outside a designated area and the app may not register your trip as complete, so charges keep running. Operators also add fees or suspend accounts.
