Temples and skyscrapers share the skyline. To escape the traffic, ride the elevated BTS or the river boats.
No single card covers everything - payment splits by system. Contactless credit cards open the gates on the MRT side, the suburban Red Line and both airports' rail links, but not on the BTS, which takes no bank cards: get a Rabbit card or a ticket. Brands split too - the MRT takes only Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay (no JCB or Amex), while the Red Line takes JCB. Buses and the river boats still run on cash, and only Grab among the ride-hailing apps works on cards alone, so keep coins and small notes handy.
