A medieval old town preserved whole, with trams circling just outside it. There are no ticket gates anywhere.

Buy before you board - from a stop machine or a kiosk - then stamp on boarding; there is no top-up transit card and no tap-to-ride. Tram and bus on-board machines take no cash and print nothing: the ticket binds to the card you paid with, shown again at inspection. A joint 70-minute ticket ties trams, buses and the local trains together - minus, by name, the airport station. The cheap zone-I versions of the 24-hour, 7-day and group tickets never leave the city, and the airport sits in zone II. A broken on-board machine is no excuse: buy first.
