Chiang Mai

A northern Thai old town still ringed by its moat. No urban rail here — the red songthaew is how the city moves.

No urban rail, no transit card to buy: you need the Grab or Bolt app plus cash. App rides show the full fare before you book; the red songthaews and tuk-tuks hailed on the street have no meter or fare table — agree the price before getting in, pay cash on getting off. The one city bus is RTC's airport loop, suspended in July 2026 with restart announced for August 31. From the airport, the A1–A3 shared vans are the cheap way in. Anywheel bikes unlock by app — a foreign SIM works — but a ride ends only once you scan the QR at a blue 'P' spot.
