San Francisco

A city of fog and hills. The cable cars are still working public transit, while BART and Muni do the daily grind.

The whole region runs on Clipper and open contactless: BART, Muni, Caltrain and the ferries all take a tap of your own bank card. That tap always means full adult fare - day passes and visitor passes live on Clipper or an app. BART has no unlimited ticket, and the cross-agency transfer discount follows one card tapped throughout. One card pays for one rider, and BART and Caltrain need a tap-off as well. The exception is the cable car: a separate fare paid to the conductor, no transfers, covered by the Visitor Passport - itself no good on BART.
